PabloEscobar
Im working on a file i got from an enginerring firm, but Im having a problem with the measuring units. Everytime I try to measure something--Tools/ Inquiry/ Distance all i get is about 3 to 3 1/2 feet. The thing is I m measuring a building, which i know is about 40 feet in width and about 60 in length. So y are the measuring tool showing me only 3 to 3 1/2 feet?????. I tried to change the units them selfs but no luck.....instead of the project -----it seems to be measuring the page scale instead.....cuz if i drag the tool across the page its giving me 11" x 17". So i guess i need to change from the page scale to the actuall project scale and i cant seem to do that. Can someone help here......please
vizwhiz
Pete Engineers Tend To work in decimal feet. 1.0 = 12 inches in architectural language or it could be a metric file and everything is at 1=25.4 not sure, but if it came in from a civil firm Then 1=1.0 Feet is most likely it is also possible That The file was scaled DOWN To fit The 11x17 page just an idea, but you could find out what The numbers are call The engineering firm and get an actual dimension of The BLDG footprint Then you will know what you need To do To The file Randy
PabloEscobar
thanx, for the reply, Hmm I dont know about Autocad that much, i basically use it to read the dimentions for the sizes of stuff. It would help if i could import the cad into 3dMax but Im getting an --eBadDwgHeader---error when i try to import.... so 1. I need to figure out what the error is and import it then ill measure the project or 2. I have to figure out the scale myself, cuz that firm isnt that friendly with ours. any help would be greatly appreciated
vizwhiz
Pablo you can send me The file and i can Take a look at it other Than scaling it up or down There isnt Too much i could do especially without knowing The exact dimensions That it is supposed To be at, knowing The exact dimensions of The BLDG footprint would be idea have you Tried To FileLink The dwg file into max? also you could do a 'wblock' on The cad file and This might help 'wblock' will create a new dwg file and sometimes doing This straightens out whatever internal file corruption That is going on assuming That you can open The cad file in The 1st place just an idea Thanks Randy

msasu
Hello, Take care, if your drawing is current on a Layout not in Model, to measure only after activate the viewport (that it, will measure in Model trough Layout) – in other case your dimension is taken above sheet, “at scale”. Or always switch to Model when measure. The same, avoid measuring using dimensioning tools, may encounter errors if the current dimension style have set a scaling factor – using DIST command is a better way. Hope this solve your issue. Have a nice day.
