guitarmunkee
Can I get a trial version of this software? I went on the website but it doesn't look like I can get a copy. Any help would be appreciated.

guitarmunkee
Is it easy to use? Can I learn it in a descent amount of time? I have a huge project due in march and this could help me out alot.
alexg
Onyx is really good, shame there's no trial, but it is definitely worth the money. We use onyx in almost all renderings, and really satisfied with the result. Got speedtree once, but not as great as onyx.

I found it pretty easy to use, tell me are you using vray ?
guitarmunkee
Ya, i will be using vray for the project. We have been using alpha cards for a while, but thats not cutting it anymore. We also use rpc plants but they don't really look that great with vray unless I'm missing something that makes them look awesome. So I'm looking for alternatives, xfrog flowers are to high poly, I know using the vray proxy would help but like I said its a huge project. manta
Yes, you won't be able to do it without proxies, that's why I asked if you were using vray, the trees are very high poly...
Brian Smith
FYI, since this is asked about quite often, Brian Zajac is writing a tutorial on this which is due out in March. Probably wont help you in time though Albert. Week 19 - Creating Onyx trees

jophus14
I too want to pick up the software, but I don't think I will get it until I read the tutorial on creating trees and shrubs. I would hate to buy it now and sit there with a blank stare asking myself how to use the software.
jkletzien
I find Onyx exceptionally easy to pick up, and exceptionally difficult to get really good at. I'm not sure if I am there yet after using it a long while but one thing is that the pdf manual that comes with it is pretty comprehensive (not so with Onyx flower) so if your pretty convinced that your going to buy it I wouldn't let the dearth of 3rd party tutorials be a deterent. guitarmunkee
Ya, I want to use it mostly for flowers not really trees. But I can check out both. Are you using vray with onyx? If so, how are render times?
jkletzien
Not surprisingly, they are shorter than if we were using XFrog, but longer than if we didn't have any trees.
SunGlare
What about speedtree? Isn't It faster? I dont have neither one, but after I saw Fredom Tower on their web site, Im starting preparing budget for $500 garden. Do I have to buy Max plugin separately, it not clear there. Could someone send a imgs with rendering times and CPU for vray? Something to compare. ps. where I can find good info about vray proxies Thank You.
