maxkid
Hi guys, I am a max8 user , I was rendering a hi -res still ( residential tower ) for a client which earlier version was done in formz .FormZ rendering was very sharp and perfect in terms of lighting solution. Formz comes with Lightscape radiosty rendering engine ,So no doubt the rendering was sharp and awesome ,I was comparing that to mine 3dsmax scanline render with radiosty and mine was sort of close but preety dull , I wonder what is the solution to this problem.I have ben using max since couple of years ,I am not aware how formZ is to work with and i don't plan to change to formz just because of it's rendering capability!!! Is there any plugin by which I could reproduce the same effect within max ,is there a way I can export data to lightworks radiostity engine or any link between 3dsmax8 and formZ for rendering. If you guys know anything or any solution , tips etc that would be appreciated. Thanks, maxkid
manta
Well first of all lets make sure we're all on the same page, Lightscape never came with Form Z, Lightworks does, not the same thing, Lightscape was the King of rendering, it did and does beautiful diffused lighting, but it has its limitations, and that's why its been replaced by engines like vray, which can pretty much match lightscape in its soft lighting, but can do alot more... Frosty
William is correct. And for the record, the LightWorks based rendering engines are among the most popular in the world. Its is included in a great many 3D packages including FormZ, VectorWorks, and I believe ArchiCad. I personally don't like using it, but it is widely available. To see its potential, have a look at the work of ChrisMac on the forum.
Frosty
i think you should compare apples to apples I agree and comparing Max/Viz, LightWave, Maya or Cinema with any third party rendering engine is not a fair comparison. Lightworks is designed for quick and simple results for the designer. This is why LightWorks is the default renderer for many architectural packages. In an architectural office LightWorks generally performs quite well and in the hands of a skilled artist, its output can rival anything else. However, there is no doubt that it is a simplistic render engine compared to newer systems such as Final Render, Brazil, VRay or Mental Ray. But I still do not think that any product should be discounted because it is simple. I'm sure that there are many people that view simplicity as a selling point.
