Brian Smith
i hear you and dont disagree...i just dont need do anything like you mentioned in my workflow...so it doesnt do anything more for me. i think it's great that users have pro, i was defending it because in the tutorials i've written on booleans for max 8 and prior, having people dish it cuz they dont know how to use it makes me look stupid for endorsing it in the first place (before max 9 came out) it's all good:cool:
Iain Denby
Blimey, that method is a bit overkill. Try this instead: Front view- Draw a rectangle to represent your wall. Unckeck 'create new shape' and draw another rectangle for your window. Apply an Extrude Modifier. Bingo!

This way has another benefit also, just go into sub-object mode, and you can move your window and door openings around with no problems...
arkiedmund
Right....as long as you know the exact positions of your openings, this is a very good technique. I also use booleans, and I find not much problems in it, except on some cases. Thanks all for the insights regarding this matter.
Hazdaz
To the Original Poster... you are asking WHY this happens: Simple, because programs like MAX do not use Solid modeling. They have to triangulate all their geometry into either n-sided polygons eventually.
