Hi;

Buying in the parts, how cheaply can an athlon X 2 4200 machine

be built for... with the most basic of graphic cards and no need

for lots of storage space... a gig of ram?

If I were building a new system, I would go Intel right now, their CPU's are superior at the moment, there would also be a clear upgrade path, that is, all you would need to do is buy a quad core cpu when they are cheap enough, and just drop it in to you existing system, and just about double your rendering power, with the AMD's its unclear what you'll have to do, but right now in order to have a quad setup, I think you have to have a dual socket motherboard and have two dualcore cpu's, just my opinion...
