quizzy
Hi, I thought I would update you lot on what project I'm doing now. Its a city in 3D for an interactive virtual reality presentation. At the end it may have the same interactivity as an FPS game.... Yes, some surroundings in FPS's could be called "Architecture"
Pavel Roder
It sounds good, what kind of engine are u using ? The one you have made yourself and explained before ??? how big is it ?
quizzy
well to give you an idea: The red is the total area I have to do (not all with textures. The blue is the visual from above. I don't want to exceed above 500.000 polys The engine will propably be Virtools, Wolf was the guy who made his own engine.. quizzy
Excellent!!! I was looking for these kind of links.. The only but is: Not enough geometry, I am going to make my model with 500.000 polygons. But I will be using camera clipping. Also I am going to use a bit higher resolution textures. but don't get me wrong... excellent link!! (It could be used as referende material for my client!) Also it gives me a better idea of the cababilities of cult3D.. Thanks nisus... Anyone have more links to these kind of projects/VR environments?? cheers.. nisus
lol quizzy I really hope your version will be MUCH better, because this one sucks imho... Anyway, glad you liked the link rgds nisus
quizzy
well, I hope so too But my main two bottlenecks are the amount of geometry and the amount of textures. The final model has to be run from a pentium III 800 with a 16 MB graphic card.

Frosty
quizzy, the guys at DXNet in Toronto created a virtual Toronto for the olympics bid a few years back. I got a sneak peak at it while they were building it, but I dont know how it turned out. They were using Performer on SGI gear (a ginormous Onyx super computer). nisus
Hi quizzy, I know it's VR, but I see some tiling issues on the grass... would it be better to have one flat color? Why did you model on an overcast day? Turn on the sunlight rgds nisus
quizzy
hey Evert, The lights are done in quest3d, and for the grass, maybe in my next VR-project, or at a later stage after the deadline. It is possible to overlay another grass texture in quest3d to make the tiling invisible.. but for now, i just hope i'll make my deadline..
nisus
and siggraph after deadline... lucky you... another deadlines forced me to cancel siggraph-flight/accomodation-investigations so far... Tuesday is the way to go nisus
