sterealkey
Hi guys, Wow today is the day of questions from me. When making a 3DS export from Sketchup and importing it into Max, it kinda explodes Its like it messes up all pivots, and when i group things and try to move the group, it will move everything in all strange directions. Its almost as if all rotations and transformations are set to 'local', but its not. Is there anyone out there who can actually successfull import/export back & forth between SU and Max without getting frustrated? If so, then please share your plugin with me. I prefer working in Max but my work sometimes requires me using SU, but if only the export/import would work properly then it would save me from doing everything twice. wilky9
I don't have MAX so I can't help you on that end, but I have been using SketchUp for a while. What version are you using? 6? Pro or free? Have you posted this at the Sketchup forums? They are pretty good, but don't stray too far from home. Have you tried exporting a very simple object? If the object is grouped (or a component) in Sketchup, you could explode it before exporting? If you want, I could export a model and send it to you to see if the problem is on your end. Brian Cassil
I know exactly what you are talking about. I've experienced the exact same thing when exporting from sketchup to .3ds files and importing to max. My work around is to export as a single object and then detatch the objects by ID. I found a script called detachbyID that makes this a snap. Hope this helps.
AJLynn
Could either of you give me a Sketchup file that gives you this problem so I can take a look at it?

aaron-cds
I've had this happen before and I actually found the solution a few days ago. When you select the objects you want to move, go into the Select Objects list and check the Display Subtree box. You'll see the objects you selected in blue. These objects are most likely parented to objects named Block:component name or group name. Make sure all of the parent objects are selected before moving them. That did it for me.
