utiler
Hi to you all, nice forum. I can't believe it took me this long to find it...... I am a designer that is finding more and more requests for artist impression / illustration work from my clients. I would like to get an idea of what software / proccesses work best for this type of output. I have been using SU for a number of years as well as Chief Architect however just changed over to Spirit 14 [by softtech] for architectural modelling.... Mostly, my work will require absract visualisation of proposed developments [Watercolor / marker techniques or photo-realistic modeling composed into a photograph. Any feedback and suggestions would be much appreciated. I look forward to frequenting this space. Many Thanks, Andrew
Devin Johnston
Welcome, you will find that there are many knowledgeable people here and there always willing to help. Your post makes it sound like you are either just getting started in the visualization field or are thinking about it. I won't be the only one to say this but I guess I'm the first; you've got a lot of work in front of you if you have never used computers for visualization before. Generally speaking 3D Studio Max or Viz are the most widely used programs for architectural visualization. With this program it's possible to create both types of rendering that you were asking about, although the watercolor look would take some work. If you are serious about doing this kind of work I would advise that you look at a university or art institute where they teach classes on this software because the learning curve is going to be quite steep especially if you’re doing it on your own. eksg
Hi there!Welcome, come on in.If you're looking for water color effects on your 3d, you should look for post of our comrade Mr. Ernest Burden. He's very good on those things. And marker effects, theres an add here about a plugin for that one, just wait until it pops out, hehe.Anyway, i hope you'll enjoy your stay here.If you'll be needing any help, everyone's more than eager to help you. Cheers!
utiler
Thanks to you all for your welcome comments, much appreciated. I haven't played with the high end of AV; I'll see how the market reacts to what i am doing [see attached]. To date i have found that there is an enormous call for conceptual modeling where i am; not so much the photo realism that i see here [great that it is!!!] What I am doing at the moment is building models in BIM software and exporting to Sketchup and playing from there. the attached image was created by layering in GIMP and various brushing runs to create a water coloured effect. Do many of you use SketchUp for concept modelling? Also, what presentation software do you use [illustrator, CS2, PagesPlus, etc..} thanks again. Tommy L
Andrew, It looks like the post-process is the main aspect for you. Most people in this forum (but definatley not all) use 3d programs to try and acheive realistic looking renders and then use post (PS etc) as a correcting and polishing tool. "3d max + render engine then photoshop" is the standard method, but other techniques abound also. Yours being a less utilized style will make your contributions very welcome here. Brian Cassil
You'll find plenty of help in doing 'stylized renderings' on the forums here. One of the main contributers does that almost exclusively. I'm sure he'll be chiming in pretty soon. Here's his site: http://www.acmedigital.com/
