ronski_g23
Hi there! you know we have almost exactly the same specs except for the processor. I have a Core2Duo E6400 2.13GHz. The board you mentioned I believe only supports up to the Core2 Extreme Editions but not the Quad Cores. I know because that's what my mobo is too and you're right about the audio 7.1 and also you forgot to mention, it's RAM capacity is up to 8GIG, so for me, this is good for the meantime... AJLynn
If the vendor says it supports quad, and they're building the PC, it's probably safe to assume they know what they're talking about. But if they have an option to use the Asus P5B Deluxe and it supports quads and doesn't cost much more, get that. Of course, since the CPU in this config is not a quad core, maybe it's not something you need to worry about. But I'm looking at the web site and the QX6700 is the same price, so I'd recommend getting that instead. Also, don't get a video card with "TurboCache" or "HyperMemory" - those are euphemisms for slow. And get an upgraded power supply.
Macpod
Im quite amazed that such a highend system comes with a 7100GS. This is about 15 times slower than the current top level GPU. In another word, its useless. I always suspect companies that use these kind of cost cutting to make the bottom line lower. you are basicaly paying for a card you cant use for 3D. suppliers are giving 7100GS free with every highend card purchased. I wouldnt trust that company. Goto a good custom computer store and buy good parts. Most of those stores can get anything you want for not much more than online prices. Parts all come with manufacture waranty. that company sounds suss
pyang
thanks, i didn't know about the 8 gig max, i thought i was 4 gig Hi there! you know we have almost exactly the same specs except for the processor. pyang
thanks, i didn't know a turboCache video card is prone to be slow. and it doesn't cost too much more for power supply upgrade. pyang
thanks, very helpful. i was thinking to same thing, why all the good parts and price is so low. about the video card, i could get a higher one. You recommend x8800 or higher for video card? i thought I didn't need the latest video card for architectural rendering. Im quite amazed that such a highend system comes with a 7100GS. pyang
following spec all for 2221.00 before tax. I also added 500 watt power supply included in price. Is it still a good buy? If I go any higher on video card i have to add $300-400-500. comment? AJLynn
Video cards have nothing to do with rendering - that's all about the CPU and RAM - but they're important for the performance of the 3D display when you're editing. An 8800GT would be the high end of the "gamer" cards. The 7100 is the low end. There are also professional cards, but I'm not sure that they're very useful anymore unless you have a program you need to run in OpenGL. Which reminds me - get XP64 if you can. Not Vista. That looks like a good config. If you wanted to max it out in term of value for your money, you could add more RAM, and if you make sure the RAM is very good (faster than it needs to be) and get an upgraded CPU cooler you could overclock it somewhat, maybe to 3GHz.
