skogskalle
not nearly finished... but I would like your opinions anyway. I know I desperatly need some new 3D-plants, but this is what I got at the moment... (they will change). The high contrast is not a mistake. I saw a cool photo which had really high contrast, and Im trying to get the same feeling in my pic. this is, just as my last post, just for fun and learning. not a "proffessional" job... http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=Veranda1_450x526.jpg
JHalton
Yeah, I use speedtree and Natfx (Bionatics) now as someone recommended it to me. Well worth a look me thinks. Are you using scanline max or 3rd party renderer. Could reccomend VRAY. Really good at extriors. And also before I dash. Build a RIG and use it over again : ) that way you dont have to keep starting from fresh. CMF! James
Victor Erthal
Great image! Try setting contrast a little bit lower, maybe making the shadow desity in 0.8 or 0.7 it will look better. But thats just me, some people might like just the way it is!
skogskalle
thanks guys! JHalton - I use the scanline renderer in MAX 4.2 I know Vray kicks butt (have seen some amazing images done with it) but sadly I cant afford any new software right now. That goes for the tree-software as well Im afraid, but Im downloading a demo of NatFX right now... Victor - As I said, I want the high contrast... but maybe I over did it a little... Ill check it out. thanks again
skogskalle
update. lots and lots of minor fixes, plus some bigger stuff. The new plants are from Xfrog. (I know, they are indoor plants, but hey, atleast they look good) JHalton - I tried the NatFX demo, but It didnt work out very well... not sure if I should blame the program, my computer or me, but it crasched MAX for me a couple of times. And when I tried to uninstall it, the unistaller didnt remove all files so now I get funny messages when I start MAX too... wasnt very impressed with the cuality of the trees either to be honest... I think there are better software out there http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=Veranda4_450x526.jpg
skogskalle
new update... thought I lost some of the original "crispiness" in the last post, so I increased the light a little.... opinions and suggestions please! http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=Veranda5_450x526.jpg
Victor Erthal
The plants look really better! How many lights are you using in your "light dome" for faking gi?
schmoron13
you can download vray FREE...just go their website, and you can get it.
skogskalle
thanks schmoron - ill try it. A little worried about the rendertimes, but ill give it a shot. The scene renders in below 3 minutes in 600x700 now, and I just dont have the patience for waiting for hours for my renders to finish... (ive heard that Vray is faster than brazil and the others though) Victor - I was trying to post a pic of the light-setup but I couldnt figure out how to take a screenshot inside MAX. (im tired) I used the light-ring method - with 30 omnis above the model, and 30 below the ground. Then theres a couple of negative direct spots for adding more soft "shadows" to some areas. Victor Erthal
Try using spotlight instead of ominis, it will save you a lot of time, since the omnis have to consider rays shot in every direction and spot doesn't. If you have a dual processor machine, you should check "enable SSE" in the render dialog, it will also save you a lot of time. It optimises the rendering for the dual processors and the best speed is in calculating shadow maps. For the screen capture, just hit print srcn an then in photoshop create a new document and pasti it there.
skogskalle
hmm.. must be something wrong with my keyboard, the "printscreen" doesnt work.... doesnt really matter now, you understand my light setup anyway... Im starting to get happy with the image, but Ill change to spotlights, just to see the speed-change... might come in handy later Im afraid I have a single processor... I checked out the interiors on your site, and they look very nice. do you use true GI, or do you fake?
demo38
...maybe some depth of field? Looking good.
Gili c
Try pressing ctrl + print screen and then open a new photosop doc and pase it there
Brian Cassil
I think I understand the "high contrast" look your going for, but I think in order to achieve that you actually need some washed out areas in your scene. You already have some completely underexposted areas but I would imagine the areas of light coming through the slats as being almost completely white in some spots. Just a thought, maybe worth a try.
