Proxies

Hey guys,

When Xrefing multiple complex houses into a scene I can tell each object of the house to display as a proxy, but I can't tell the house as a whole to display as a proxy. Is there a way that I can tell multiple xrefed objects to be one proxy?

I need proxy help! This scene is unmanagable without xrefing or something

Thanks

Aaron

As I see it, you've got 2 options to get around this.

1.Either collapse the whole house to a mesh and xref object that into your scene and have it display as a proxy.

or (and I prefer to use method 2)

2. Keep your house as it's individual parts and xref scene that into your file. You can either choose to use display as box or show it as what it is. Display as box is much faster for viewport speed. You'll need to have your home placed exactly where you want it in the source file before you xref it it using xref scene as with xref scene you wont be able to select your xref'd objects.

I almost never use xref object as it's a fickle thing to deal with. If I ever have to use an xref (and that's fairly rare these days) I will always use xref scene, as it's a bit more stable and less likley to funk up when you need it most.

If you have vray, convert them to vray proxies. Vray can handle the proxies in memory extremely well if you have the right settings inside vray.

No...I'm not using VRAY Proxies. I SHOULD give those a try. I came up with Scott's first suggestion this weekend. It seems like the easy way out. Just make the whole house one big mesh. If I have to make changes, I can always just use 'select by element'.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am still going to give vray proxies a try and look deeper into 'Display as box'.
