Macpod
I have 3dmax 8 with the architectural material library installed. The maps that came with it do not show up in the preview and some of them dont show up at all when i render. Is there a setting i should be tweaking? only3d
either your file paths are not configured correctly or your jpegs are missing. check your material folder if everything is in place
neko
maybe try a quick render with '2-sided' materials turned on, to make sure the materials aren't just showing up on the back surfaces of your objects.
Macpod
The jpegs are definitely in the 'maps' folder in the directory. How do i check whether they are linked? how do i turn the 2 sided thing on? Im getting to the materials by going to 'get materials' in the toolbox and opening up the materials folder. Is this the right way? All the maps for '3d max' materials(default) are working properly but things i open up from the materials folder seem to be abit random, some works some dont. non have maps for preview. Thanks for the advice. PS im finding alot of bugs with the rendering engine in acad 2007. complex scenes are abit of a hit and miss. ive had the rendering window going blank on me. file linking to 3d max seems to be more reliable. btw, filelinking works fine after you've downloaded the real DWG patch for 3ds max 8. neko
rendering 'forced 2-sided' is checked in the 'common' tab under rendering it does take more time, but sounds like something to investigate. when you say some of your materials don't preview, there is a little checker-board cube icon along the bottom of the material editor that is for displaying maps in the viewport (don't know why you would ever not show them ?) make sure that is 'on' as well. if it is a path issue, then go to 'configure paths' under the customize pull-down. rendering in autocad, eh ? i would only do that for practice...... paul
mbayana
Hi Yihang did you receive any program message when you hit Qrender button if that happen try applying uvw map modefier i wish that help
ronel
if uvw map modifier doesnt work, use mapscaler modifier instead. When you installed 3dmax 8, automatically by default all the links file is set accordingly, unless you have put another material. So were thinking why it would happen. try to reinstalled your 3d max, and when things are not corrected, tell us here and we will find a solution for you. Sometimes reinstalling is the best way to correct some dlls.
Macpod
Hmm. it seems the problem is associated with file linking. a similar sized block created as a solid primitive within 3dmax renders fine. but the filelinked dwg is all wacky. i have installed SP3 and realDWG. only3d
why didnt u say it was a linked model in the 1st place?.. this is a uvw issue, it happens with all imported models almost (non-max files of course) all u have to do is apply a 'uvw map' modifier and it will be fine. freeaked me out too the 1st time it happened to me.. Macpod
ok. will try that. thanks.
Macpod
that worked a treat. Although its abit frustrating how you have to specify what kind of shape the UVW is being applied to, otherwise only one face seem to be properly mapped. this could be annoying if a scene contains more than one type of solid, ie boxed and polysolids, each solid will have to selected instead of a whole scene. im sure theres a technical explaination fo this.
