batteryoperatedlettuce
As a personal project to enhance my scripting skills I am developing a script to aid animators to accurately simulate characters playing instruments. For instance I have a character (a rabbit) playing a bill monroe mandolin solo. At present the left and right hand positions controlled by a bones system can be accurately simulated by noting the tab data as packets of information within an array. Each array entry contains the length of the note, ideal fingering for first position and ideal position on the fingerboard. When the script is run, the apropriate adjustments to the characters skeleton are made based on the current position of the instruments finger board, which is nonfixed. the effect looks pretty good at present, but in order to really streamline the animation process and make it ultra lazy, I want to be able to create the array from existing midi/tab data, which contains all the appropriate information already. Does anyone know any good animation forums where I might be able to get some help and advice on this kind of animation.
martin walker
sounds really interesting Kev, perhaps try some Games Development sites...theres usually a fair bit of advice on there. I have a few friends over at Pixar who are animators, I will sound them out today and get back to you
louis.cho
Maybe you already know it but you can try on the cgsociety forum: http://www.cgtalk.com . I go there quite often and many of members are in game industry. You can post it in the scripting section, software specific section or game development section. You will have answers in less time than make spagettis!
