Ernest Burden III
Many programs will import a LW file and export a 3DS file. Max will not import Lightwave? That would surprise me. You might find a free converter on the web. But for a low-cost shareware, AccuTrans is fantastic, and about US$20 I think. http://www.micromouse.ca/
afterglow
you can export .3ds from lightwave, or you can convert .lwo to .max with polytrans.
Justin Hunt
look on 3DLinks.com there are some links to converters, I have found Biturn fairly good, not great but does the job. There used to be one call Crossroads which was great, but I cant find it any more. Export out a OBJ and suck that into max. There are face count limits with 3DS. I'm going to have to look at that one. I use Polytrans for this exact translation and am very happy with it but its a few hundred.
