Richard McCarthy
From their FAQ: "Where does this software comes from ? The software is shipped from Eastern Europe." This seems like a dead give away already... Eastern Europe...ha! "Note, that you will not be able to register the software with the manufacturer and get their support, but we will do our best to support you any way possible." Not being able to register with software maker?!! now, that's clearly not right.....Fishy fishy! There is no catch - the software versions that we sell are OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Yeh right, AutoCAD comes with your Dell PC LOL... or 3DS MAX OEM bundle with your Gateway PC.. I don't think there is such deal... AND, I don't think you are allow to sell OEM software..OEM agreement/licenses are between the software maker and the PC manufacturers ONLY. This software is recognized as a backup software. Bingo!... This "backup" software they are selling.. is PIRATED software.

xgarcia
Don't buy from this site. Even their web site looks cheap and "warez"ish. Let Autodesk nail them...and they will you can bet on that.
Ras
I guess it depends on the local legislation what the consequenses will be for the "vendor" - it seems unbelievably dumb if it is just a matter of nailing the responsible people and slapping them with a fine the size of the GNP. Maybe the different currency values(US$ having much higher value than the local currency) makes it worth any kind of countermeasures from Autodesks side?!? Could be that the customers will be the ones with the biggest problems if Autodesk start rolling their sleeves up. The really irritating thing about these sites is that they are trying to drain me - the gullible customer - I mean why not just tell it like it is! Seems so obvious anyway. ...Can´t wait to hear the reply from Autodesk...

mbr
I can't get the site to work. I'll bet that they simply do not send anything out. There are a bunch of scams on ebay scams in the mountain bike section where these guys are asking you to send money, but they'll of course not ever send anything out. I've spent hours trying to get them shut down, but because they are not breaking any of ebay's 'rules' they can still post the auctions (which ask you to contact them before buying and offer $5k bikes for $2k). They also post 2 day auctions and it takes ebay more than 48 hours to investigate anything. There is about 50% of the mtn bike auctions are fraudulent. It really frustrates me, as you can see! I'd guess that's what they are doing. They'll just rake the cash in until someone takes the site down, then they'll move onto the next scam. It stinks. But like most scams, they move quick enough that you can't catch them, not to mention there is no way to know where they are.
xgarcia
Funny you mention that Markus b/c my brother recently purchased a Trek from EBay (used). The guy asked for money up front, so my brother took a big risk ($800). He did get the bike and everything went smooth, but he really lucked out. I'm going to let him know about the bike scams for future reference. I've heard of scams on ebay in which people (usually from South Asia) will create duplicate auctions (they find an auction that sounds good and post a duplicate as if they are the real sellers). Stupid buyers send money and no response is heard from the seller. OK...first rule of using EBay. Do not bid international auctions. It's jsut safer to stay in your own country (laws and rules apply, they don't in other countries.) mbr
I will be buying my bike from ebay, too. There are some great deals on there. What I ask someone to to if it sounds fishy is take a photograph with them holding a specific part of the bike. That way it's almost impossible for them to fake. These guys are pretty professional. They even have a link to pay with credit card, instantly. They give you their phone number (in the UK), business address, etc. One of them even had a fake escrow service, with complex programming, fee calculators, credit card acceptance, etc. The only reason I determined it was fraudulent was because the domain was only purchased 2 weeks before the auction. I successfully got that taken down (a small victory ) and the auctions canceled. Another guy tried to sell me a Trek Fuel 100 (one of their favs to 'sell', as it is quite popular and retails for close to $5k) from a hacked account. I got that guy canned, too . The easiest way to determine it is to look at their other listings. These guys will have 50 high end bikes (no shop has that many 2004 models selling for pennies), laptops, high end rims, camcorders - there is no pawn shop that rich! I just feel bad for those that send a $2k check in. That's a lot of cash for these punks!! Hopefully ebay will wake up and make it more difficult to pull these things off. Gili c
at last we got a response from autodesk Hi Gili! Thank you for contacting Autodesk, Inc. The only way to buy these products is to go to an authorized reseller, directly with Autodesk, Inc. or Discreet. Autodesk’s software licenses do not allow transfers of licenses (TOL's) between individuals or separate companies. Transfers are only allowed in cases where a company is being acquired by or merged with another company. These will essentially be "name changes" and not transfers of license. Customers should direct all transfer of license requests to the Customer Service Center (ABC) at 800-538-6401, and follow prompts for general customer service. The ABC will be able to help customers determine if they qualify for any TOL exception. We encourage you to contact your Autodesk Authorized reseller for information regarding the purchase of products or upgrades. A network of more than 4,100 Authorized Autodesk Resellers and Autodesk Systems Centers (ASCs) in over 150 countries provide excellent local support, including: * Expert consultation on choosing applications and hardware solutions that best complement Autodesk software * Software installation and configuration * Support options that allow you to get help when you need it, by phone or onsite. * Product training To locate an Autodesk Authorized reseller in your area, go to http://www.autodesk.com/supp/asc/system.htm . If you prefer to purchase your software directly from Autodesk, several Autodesk products and support contracts are now available for sale on our website at http://www.autodesk.com/estore/usa/index.htm or can be ordered by phone at 800-440-4198. Sincerely, PS Admin Autodesk, Inc.
