Let me have it!

overall they look good. Some of the pics have parts that seem too dark, and others have too big and too bright highlights. They dont look photorealistic, but im not sure that was what you were going for. The modelling looks fine, but if you want them to be more realistic maybe you should work some more on the materials.

For presenting the apartment the images are just fine though.

btw. if you didnt use GI, what technique (spelling?) did you use? I have no problems faking GI in outdoor scenes, but Im still learning how to set up an indoor GI-fake lighting rig.

If you could post a wireframe view with the lights visible or something that would be great!

what software are you using??

cheers!

I'll say something nice Joel... Great Job! I thought there was a very comfortable use of lighting and color throughout all of the images. It's only when you stare at the images for a long period of time that you begin notice subtle texture or anti-aliasing "potential tweaks". I say potential tweak because they are not really needed and only the Anal-Retent Visualization Community will care about such things, not the clients. Photo Realisim is really an unobtainable goal anyhow. I pity those who spend countless hours trying to perfect their scenes only to get them ripped up here in the forums anyhow. Once again, good work man.

David,

Thanks for the kudos and for being nice to my tender little ego. This is the first time I've posted anything here. I really debated sticking my neck out like this, but I genuinely would like to hear some suggestions on how to make my work look better.

As far as lighting goes, there's a good series of tutorials on the cgarchitect site be Smoke3D. I've been using the same technique for a while and am quite happy with the results. I would also credit the Jeremy Birn book, Digital Lighting and Rendering. Simply awesome book. GI looks good if it is done right, but I don't see it as a reliable or feasible tool in a production environment.

first of all... Mega Pixel: I know its nice to hear how good you are and all that, but when you post something in the WIP forum I guess you prefer to hear some real comments, that can actually help you improve your work. If everyone tells you youre the best all the time, you have little chance of getting better.

If I had made those pictures I would have been very happy with them, and I would probably not have seen or cared about the few "trouble-areas". But again - when you post work in the WIP i guess you want to make them even better.

Joel - Thanks for the booktip! Im very low on cash at the moment (and by "low" I mean "totally broke") but Ill see if I can get a used copy of it somewhere... or maybe ask the local library to get it :)

  • 1 month later...

Lot of work there. Very nice...

The grain on the images is a bit distracting overall, but the colors look good. It may be perspective, but a few pieces of furniture seem out of scale with one another? The piano compared to the Psych chair maybe?

The bump is scaled pretty large on the walls... It could be a stucco finish, but not rough enough then?

Good work though.
