kevin miller
I am getting ready to try this very thing but I have my doubts since I need a slightly curved surface. This method would get very tricky near the parking areas. I was preparing my autocad drawing for import when you wrote. The only concern I have with this if it even comes out right is how will this all affect the tecture mapping? I need to create cobble streets and distortion is a concern. Since I know autocad well, I would try the easysite plugin but I do not have 700 dollars right now to spend. Just found out my wife is pregnant....again! I amy be stuck with just using a shapemerge command but this is not preferrable since I think getting the cobble to look right will be challenging as the road curves and has intersections. Gene
You can always use a smoothing or Chamfer and even though you won't have a perfectly smooth spline, I doubt your client will be able to tell when it's textured and from the camera's view...unless of course you are zooming right in. Texture after the geometry is modified...it's not that big a deal. I am not 100% sure, but I recall that you can cut a polygon surface and it will retain it's UV coordinates. If you remove or add or remove additional geometry, then it goes screwy.
kevin miller
actually, I forgot about the chamfer but that could work. I will post what I come up with over the next few days. We'll see how it goes as I am still learning this beast of a program.
kevin miller
I ran a quick spline so I could see how the texture would apply and the attached image shows what I was concerned about. Unlike the loft object, the UV coords on an extruded spline does not work out real well. This problem will compound itself once we start throwing intersections into this mix. Does anyone have some suggestions?
