Recommended Posts

Hi can anyone tell me if this system is a worthy upgrade to what i have already? we use 3ds max 7 and and autocad with files around 100-200mb.

I previous spec'd a machine and the managers weren't happy with the cost  so they can back to me with this one.

New proposed System

Dell 1xQuad core intel xeon E5320 1.86Ghz 1066 2x4mb cache

2gb ram

256mb nvidia quatro FX3500

250gb hd

2x19" DELL MONITORS

Existing system

dual processor xeon 3.0ghz 1mb cache

2gb ram

quatro 980xgl 64mb

80gb hd

2x17 LG MONITORS

Cheers

Guy

It has to do with number of threads you expect to be running. With 4 cores, that's 4 threads, and each one will take some memory, so rendering on a 4-core box takes more ram than on a 2-core (e.g., dual single-core Xeons) box. Management can't fault you for that - it's just how it works.
