Sawyer
I saw some nice work there. I like the rendering vs photo idea on your site. Altho I was not able to click on photos orangesad I liked the quick browse of paintings I saw. Always refreshing to see nice "real" paintings. Nice work. garethace
I love to see the new young minds bringing fresh ideas, and opinions to the forum! Amazing to see the quality of computer graphics and freehand drawing together in the same place. Generally, i have found today that young students are either going straight to freehand or cg, but unfortunately seldom manage to climb both of these great peaks. nichchris
Ok.. got those missing pages fixed... and btw garethace. I think your comment is true, not many do(learn) both traditional, and cg tools , and I think that is a great loss. I think those who promote too heavily cg.. and denounce the traditional mediums, whould be very surprised the day they decided to grab the brush, and or pencil and take it seriously.. and vice-versa. All I can really say I have used both.. and love both equally, In fact CG to me is just another tool.. If a job is easier "for me" to do in CG I will use the PC.. but if the job is easier with paint, or is best fitted to be done in paint.. I think you know the answer here. nichchris
garethace
Well, if you do spend long enough in WIP or Finished work areas here... you will notice that cg renders are mainly about communicating information/design concepts effectively. What surprises me always, when i see a good freehand drawing - is how come with so much technological expertise and ingenuity - the human hand still can manage to communicate something about an idea that exists only in the mind of a designer or creative person - in a way that computer programmes still cannot. What i liked most about your sketch collection, was how much they told/communicated to me - someone on the other side of the Atlantic ocean, about a design concept you were working out mentally and by drawing using a pencil and some paper. That ability is simply not to be sneezed at. The best part is, you don't have to pay a software company with a god-complex a yearly subscription fee for the privelege of using your own talent, if you want to upgrade, you simply buy a pencil and paper! I started traditional in 1992, and gradually over time suceeded in 'transitioning'. Totally cool or totally lame, depending on your point of view. Having seen your sketching ability confirms once more my conviction, that computers simply cannot 'do it all themselves' - there will always be people required with the ability to draw. Again, thanx very much for linking your web site. You helped me to resolve some very difficult issues i am dealing with constantly in the day-to-day conflict between the young and old here in the workplace. This guys work is wonderfully fluid, natural and freehand i think: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/arth/home.htm He has some links also at his site to other places.
