kwerch
Hey all- Don't know what is up but when I started rendering a scene this morning using vray 1.4.7 and Max 7, max crashes. It looks like when it gets to the light cache part of the calcs that something happens. Memory spikes at this point. I turned off materials and it renders fine. Best I can figure is I have series of bitmaps that exceeds the amount of memory that I have available(2gig) sooo...any suggestions? thx.
Mike T
I've had that problem with a couple of scenes. It helped alot to raise my virtual memory to around it's maximum. Actually, since I've done that, only RPC's crash rendering. It might solve your problem but that's the only suggestion that I have. If you need directions on how to get to your virtural memory let me know.
kwerch
Yeah Mike, could you tell me how to get into that? thanks-
Mike T
Sure.... if you right click on "My Computer" in your start menu and go to properties you'll open the systems proporties window. From there, you'll go to advanced tab and under performance hit settings. This will send you to the Performance Options.... go to the Advanced tab and then go to Virtural Memory and hit Change. In the Virtural Memory window you'll see at the bottom minimums and recommended. This what is suggested to place in the custom slot. Mine is at 3096 initial and max at 4092. But you can set it a little higher or lower if you need. Again, this helped me in my crashing and hopefully it will help you.
Scott Schroeder
Make sure you have no raytrace materials in the scene. Those will hard crash Vray as well. Does Vray return any errors in the dialog?
kwerch
No luck with the increase in virtual memory- I upped to 4092 and 4092- same crash. There are no raytrace mats in the scene either- The error that results is something in Max, it appears, and not VRAY- Hmmmmmmm.
