MesaPrs
Hi Folks- I'm making the switch from traditional media to 3d and am putting a portfolio of 3d viz material together from scratch. As my old watercolor portfolio was mainly residential material, I'm starting with a hotel project that's no longer under development given to me by a builder I used to work for ... which I am grateful to have recieved. My problem is that I want to produce more images of large projects but don't really know anyone else to get the material from. I do live right inbetween LA and the Bay Area (US) and some pretty huge arch. firms, but does anybody think it would be rude or naive of me to directly ask them for some elevations to work off of? I'm pretty sure just copying some structure off the street wouldn't exactly be legal and I don't want to design something myself (I'm not an architect - yet ) Thanks for any help, John
ipxstudios
If you are just doing portfolio images - try any Architectural magazine and build what you think looks interesting. I don't think that would be a problem.
Nic H
Buy some architecture magazines (Architectural Review is good and has themed issues ie. commercial/educational etc It often has line drawings which allthough small are useable) and copy some interiors and exteriors as a basis. I wouldnt worry at all about legalities, its not illegal to take pictures or do drawings of buildings. I doubt any offices will give you drawings to work from. Photo references should be enough.
