skala67
Does anyone know why this is happening and even better, how to fix it? I am using a final gather map which i created with a grey override material. I thought that this was supposed to avoid these artifact problems. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix? It is for an animation so moving the camera is not a solution. Thanks, tj
Justin Hunt
There is a bug with the fast interpolate reflections. Don't use fast interpolate. Try using a combination of the High detail distance settings and trace depth under the advanced rendering tab. For the walls and ceiling, just use the Highlightsand FG only. No need for glossies there. JHV
nisus
Just a note: You are talking about using a grey override, but I do see color in your image. Did you check the override checkbox? nisus
Justin Hunt
I assume you created the FGM with the grey material over-ride then froze the solution, disabled the material over-ride to get the colour back? This will only help in preventing colour bleed and not artifacting. JHV
skala67
yes, thats what I did, and thats what i learned. I found out the problem. It was because i had used the pearl texture on the walls (A&D material). I changed it to Matte and it worked perfect. It also sped up the rendering process 2-3X. Thanks for all your help. cheers,
Justin Hunt
I think the Pearl preset uses the fast interpolate Check out Master Zapps blog for more info about these settings and whats really happening http://mentalraytips.blogspot.com/ JHV
nisus
Yup it does, and that's where the artifacts come from. Be sure to check the max/mr help on how to make 'fake' glossy reflections ;-) rgds, nisus
