nisus
Hi All, I've made an A+D material with a bitmap placed in the cutout slot. The transparency renders correctly. When I add a bitmap in the environment slot, the environment map shows up where the object should be transparent... i.e. no transparancy gets calculated anymore. How can I solve this problem? rgds, nisus
daniohayon
i.e. no transparancy gets calculated anymore. Actually it is calculated, but since there is an image in the environment you end up seeing it through the transparent areas. What are you trying to achieve? nisus
I try to achieve a 'real' cutout, i.e. nothing visible in the cutout or a 'real' transparency. rgds? nisus
daniohayon
rgds? What the hell...I've just found out what is "RTFM" and now you give me this... I understand what you're trying to do, but why would you add a map in the Env slot? That's asking MR to add that map to the transparent areas. Are you trying to get reflections with thet map? nisus
ow ow ow... First of all... RTFM = NOT the same as 'rgds', the latter only meaning "regards"... Other than that, I assume you did NOT assume I had to RTFM first... ,-p BacK to the topic... It's so simple... I'm trying to make a metal plate with holes in it... Metal as in 'reflection/environment', holes as in 'cut out'... Because I am using a background image, I need an environment because otherwise I get 'wrong' (read: screen mapped) reflections... To get the holes, I need a cutout map... I'm not sure if you understood my previous explanation well, but I'm NOT trying to make a reflection in the 'holes'... I AM howevert trying to make a reflection on the whole plate, except in the holes... For some reason, the latter doesn't work... so I'm asking for any help... (and believe me, there is nothing written about this in the manual...) rgds, nisus
daniohayon
This is a problem. MR is very weird about the Env map. It will show it through anything reflective. I've masking almost everything with the holes map...Nothing! If you place a different map in the material Env slot, you will get reflections on the material and the actual map (as Env) through the holes. You can't escape this. Let me know if you do... Few months ago I had the same problem with my Env map, it was reflecting as if you could see the map through the wood floor (interior scene). Posting it in the forum got me adding the map in Photoshop, and leaving the environment map empty. Not the best...
Justin Hunt
Drop a MRPhysical sky shader into the environment slot and the bitmap into the custom bitmap slot You will have to play with the settings to get the reflections right JHV

daniohayon
After few experiments, dropped the same global Env map into the mr sky and it worked. way to go Justin! Sorry I couldn’t help you more nisus
nisus
Sorry I couldn’t help you more nisus Hey, no prob at all, your day will come! I'm very happy to see that you tried out some things ,-) I have a good feeling about growing a strong MR-forum here on CGA... Good to see more interest, more hands and more brains ,-) nisus
