only3d
funny with all the initials no..? lime some secret code only for vray users.. anyways i got a reaccuring problem which i wonder about (and also about to give up LC) when using QMC for 2nd bounce then its all nice & dandy, but sometimes when im using LC for 2nd bounce then everything comes out "bleached".. im talking same scene exactly! i dont know why i insist on trying LC but i know its supposed to give faster results and alittle better even (no?) so any ideas? im using only an ies sun and nothing else on this test, and see what happens.. Stephen Thomas
I'm no expert, but I think it looks like you are using only 1 or 2 bounces of light with the quasi montecarlo (qmc) GI. Light cache on the other hand just keeps on bouncing the light around many times. When using an IES sun you should use a logarithmic exposure setting, try it and see if this helps! Stephen Thomas
In fact you are probably better using a vray sphere or a simple direct light as your sun. The problem with IES sun comes from the fact that IES or photometric lights use real world intensities and falloff accurately over real distances. That is why it is important to scale your model correctly. As there is no way you can set the IES sun to the correct distance from earth you would normally compensate for this by checking the 'exterior daylight' box in the logarithmic exposure settings. Not sure whether IES sun is best for interior shots though.
Ricardo Eloy
Not sure whether IES sun is best for interior shots though. Especially when you have VRay Sun to play with...
only3d
tnx 4 the quick replies about the ies sun-i dont think its the cause for the burn, its exactly the same with a standart direct\omni\spot. in fact its the same with no lights at all(!) besides if the sun was so strong it would have burned the QMC shot as well wouldnt it? oh and about the QMC bounce ur correct. -its only 3 bounces but i dont mind that its just as a comparison to the LC engine. about the model- it is modeled correctly. i know it messes up the caculation so i allways model in proper units (cm in this case- 500\500\280) heres another test, plus the vray settings. no lights active

alias_marks
Can we take a look at your comparable qmc settings and your color mapping settings too?
alfienoakes
Have you made sure you Viz / max radiosity and environment controls are OFF? It looks like you could be running you Vray settings, along side your Viz settings. Check your advanced lighting tab and environment controls and see if they are on.. only3d
Can we take a look at your comparable qmc settings and your color mapping settings too? there is no difference what-so-ever in the settings between the 2 shots/ just changed the 2nd bounce engine from QMC to LIGHT CACHE. and theres definitly no radiosity or lightracer active. i tried running vray with a 'skylight' once.. just for kicks.. crashed my max, and then i read in the manuals its a big no no......!
