agolk2
I am trying to make an animation where there is a TV on in the background. What is the best way of doing this?
SunGlare
Instead sill bitmap use motion picture. Simple anythig avi, mov, but be careful with codecs, some crazy divx, xvid may not render at all.
agolk2
Your talking about in a material, right?
jvlive
Take your "tv show" avi to the material editor and apply it to your tv. You wont be able to see it animate unless you render it though. Hope that helped.
agolk2
I'm sorry if i'm being ignorant but I don't understand where to insert the video into the material editor to successfully complete this. I'm also using VRAY to render by the way.
Claudio Branch
Just go through the diffuse slot of a standard material and browse to the path where you clip is. If you have an opacity mask for it, be sure to include that in the opacity slot. Don't forget your UVW map on the surface and assign the material just like any other. You should be able to view it in the viewport if you have a decent video card.
agolk2
OH! Thanks, I am ignorant, I thought the bitmap selection only did images and not movies.

jvlive
Oh yeah, Claudio's right, you can see it in the viewport. I guess the next question here is how do you "control" the tv animation. I mean how do you get your tv to show only a part of the clip you want without going to a video editor? or loop it, slow it down, speed it up to fit the time it is seen. Can these be done in max? sonofalion
The video automatically loops. You can tweak this at the 'Time' rollout of your map in the Material Editor. Also, in the 'Bitmap Parameters' rollout -> 'Cropping/Placement' you can crop your video to your liking. Don't forget to tick 'Apply' afterwards. So, the answer is YES! You can do that all in Max! See how good it is?
