manta
"simply blow away the competition." We'll see... anyway whats their licencing policy, cause they're selling rendernode licences for $175...
quizzy
licensing is the same as in B1. But now you can actually buy single rendernode licenses. So next time I buy another rendernode its $175 more expensive, but has Brazil render capabilities, I can live with that.
manta
Sorry but I don't know what their licencing policy was before either, if I buy brazil 2, how many computers can I network render on, and how many can I distribute render on...
AJLynn
They have different packages. 1 workstation plus 2 render nodes is $1200 as a package (I think this is what they used to call the Artist License) or separately a workstation is $995 and a render node is $175. A 4 render node package is $750. This is all for the "Pro" license, they also have a "Basic" - e.g., their pricing scheme is complex and you should look at it carefully if you're considering buying It does look like quite a good piece of software, I've used a couple of the beta releases a bit but I find mental ray and Vray more compatible with my brain and if I wanted to do something like use all the fast machines in my office as a farm at night, like Maxer does, I think the pricing scheme would start to get in the way. (We're an architecture firm, not a vis firm, so I wouldn't want to go explaining why I need to spend $175 every time somebody else gets a new Core2 box...) manta
Ya, like if someone had like 80 computers, it would cost around $14,000 for Brazil, and less than a thousand for vray, it better be really good for that kind of a price... Not to mention MR is free, and as far as I know has unlimited netrender with Max anyway...I think Maya and XSI still have limits with netrender... AJLynn
mr is unlimited for Backburner rendering and with distributed buckets you can use 8 nodes at a time (I think this is a technical limitation, not caused by licensing).

pipjor
i've been using Brazil for about 4 years, bought the B2 upgrade last week.. I do mostily exterior shots and i've always liked Brazil's ease and look... the downside is it seems alot of folks are not using Brazil. their forums are pretty dead... the upside is also alot of folks are not using Brazil and you get great customer support, fast response.... trino
i heard that brazil was use in Film a lot in some recent movies, not sure which ones and if it is true, but if that is the new market i think it has to be more powerfull than before IMO. Jim Mann
So...whatever happened to Brazil 2, anybody using it... Blimey, sounds like somebody from Splutterfish offended you? I have been using Brasil for a few years now and have just done a first couple of jobs with B2. I loved using B1 and am finding B2 is definitely an improvement in many respects but it's giving slightly different results to B1 so I am still getting used to it. Pipjor: couldn't agree more about the support and customer service. Always brilliant and near instant. Jim
manta
Blimey, sounds like somebody from Splutterfish offended you? Jim Nope...not at all, there was all this hype about it's release and how it was going to dominate with its new features...and then nothing...so I was just curious about it...
