My experience with XiComputer

Recommended Posts

On February 9th, I placed an order for a new workstation. I basically built the same computer that was previously reviewed in Cadalyst, and it was their recommended system.

Well, last week I called to find out where my system was, and they said it was built and ready to ship, but they were waiting on a backordered keyboard. I was thinking to myself "WTF?!?!". I told the guy to ship the system and send the keyboard seperately. He said okay. Well, today I finally get an email from their shipping department with tracking numbers. I ordered on the 9th, called somewhere around the 21st to see what the delay was, and get confirmation of shipping on the 28th.

They may build quality systems, but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. No, it flat out sucks. And if you're in a hurry for a system, this is not the company for you.

Oh, they haven't replied to any of my emails either.

my main system is a dual dual core opteron from XI, I got it about 18 months from them, the specs mentioned firewire but there were no firewire ports in it. when I moved to poor old Lebanon I couldn't find firewire pci express cards to put in this old in the USA but latest technology motherboard in Lebanon. I tried to buy a system from them a few months ago but even though they say they ship internationnally, they told me one system is not worth it for them to apply for an exporting license to Lebanon.

so I did some research and I saw an advertisment in Cadalyst magazine for Polywell computers at http://www.polywell.com. I tried them and from now on I am a polywell customer. they build and ship fast and even international shipping is safe and insured, they're even cheaper than XI, they have much more options, and they reply within minutes. my latest system was from them, an FX 62 cpu in a mini box I can carry in my small suitcase when the war breaks again here and I have to run for it.

When I got my Xi system, I had a similar situation to Eric's, maybe a few days less. I have however, been very happy with the system since then.

My Boxx system at work took about the same amount of time to ship. And I have not been very happy with it. About 1 month ago, the power supply crapped out. They sent me a new one, I put it in and it's working again.

Like I said, Xi = good, Boxx = not so good.
