fts
1- Whats the difference in using Vray materials as opposed to Standard Mat in Max? 2- For some reason I dont see the maps on objects assigned with Vray materials. Is there a way to change that so when I do the mapping on objects I can see it? Thanks
rivoli
lot of difference: they are specifically optimized for vray, any raytraced effect such as reflection/refraction can't be rendered by vray unless you use either a vray map or a vray mat (max's raytrace mats can produce odd results or nothing at all), some vray render elements won't work at all without vray mats in scene.. and so on. I think I remember there's a bug that may crash max when you display maps via vray's mats shader level (even though you should be able to display them if max doesn't crash), it should work at individual map level though. Tim Saunders
I assume you are talking about viewing the bitmap in your viewport? If you are using a release older than 1.5, you will need to go inot the diffuse slot where you have the bitmap loaded and then check the blue and white checkered box to view the bitmap in the viewport. Older releases don't have that option at the "top-parent" level of the material.
