Devin Johnston
I'm just getting set up with Vray and I'm trying to get my DR system up and running. I've got a dual processor quad core system so that's 8 processors and I've got another dual processor system that I want to use to do distributed rendering. I've got the vrayspawner90 running on the computer and I have added that machine to my DR list. When I do a test rendering all 8 of my processors begin to render and the DR computer comes in and start rendering. Like I said it's a dual processor and for what ever reason the DR process is only using 1 of the 2 available processors. I read a thread on the Chaos site which said you had to run a max script in order to enable Vray to use multi threaded processors so I run the script which is this (renderers.current.system_numThreads=8) and not only do all 8 of my processors show up as buckets but I get 8 buckets from my render node. This render node is a dual processor AMD Opteron so the maximum number of buckets it should be showing is 2 but I'm showing 8 that actively render. Someone help me out here and tell me what's going on.
AJLynn
Your Maxscript command forced 8 threads - 8 threads is 8 buckets regardless of the number of CPUs. Usually on a dual CPU you see 2 buckets because the system sees 2 CPUs and defaults to 2 threads, but that bug keeps it from doing that. What you want is to change the 8 to a 2 for the 2-CPU system. I don't know enough about this problem to know whether you can actually do that, but that's what you would want to do if you can
