Lines overlay on images

I am doing some masterplanning images and I've seen this effect in quite a few images but I'm not sure how to achieve it.

 

Basically there is the original CAD image then on top of that there is a line drawing (much like find edges in photoshop) but the lines don't finish at the corners of the building they continue on for a little bit.

 

Is this a filter for photoshop or somthing that comes with Max or Vray?

The term for the line extensions you refer to is "overshoot" This topic is currently being discussed in the thread this link leads to:

One possibility is to import your model into Sketchup which does this effect very well and it's really easy. The other would be to use Final-toon. The last would be to print the image and trace some lines by hand and a layer of transparency and scan that in and comp it in on top. Sound ludicrous but I've seen it done well.
