Devin Johnston Posted March 8, 2007 Share Posted March 8, 2007 I'm using a spherical Vray light as my sun; the sphere has a 10' radius with a multiplier of 500. I know there is a relation between these two where the bigger the radius gets the smaller the multiplier needs to be in order to produce the same amount of light. My problem is that I want the shadows coming through the windows to be sharp but right now they are extremely diffuse. I've been messing with this for a few hours and I haven't made any progress, can anyone shed some light on this? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Ricardo Eloy Posted March 8, 2007 Share Posted March 8, 2007 Since the VRayLight acts as a real light would, you have to take into account the size of it. Large areas (lights) will cast diffuse shadows, while small lights with small areas will cast sharper shadows. What you can do is set the light to something like 5' radius and mult= 1500, for example. Also, the distance between the light and the object that casts the shadow have its part of influence. Devin Johnston Posted March 8, 2007 Author Share Posted March 8, 2007 Thanks Rick, I've set it to 6" and given it a multiplier of 50,000 which seems to be working. The light it's self is only about 60 feet away from my building so I don't know if that's messing it up or not. It just seems like a very large multiplier to me but it could be totally normal.
