It is a house that I am in process of designing it from a studio class. I was reading about NPR tutorial from here and I wanted to try it too. My professor wants our final renderings by hands. However I like to convince him with my NPR renderings. It's my first NPR attempt and I really want to know what you think. Please tell me what you think about both of images. By the way, I love CGarchitect.com. I learned more from here than classes.

Hi,

I like the building. The renders look quite good. I can see a water colour quality coming out in your NPR version.

Personally, I would render out a wire frame view and sketch it or even trace it then using your two renders as reference do a traditional watercolour with touches of gouache or acrylic.

Doing it this way may be better at convincing your professor of the validity of NPR images, in that you can show the flexibility of digital image manipulation for testing ideas quickly, then using one or some of those test images as your reference to create the traditional media final.

thanks kid.

I should try that. I have a qustion. When you render out a wire frame view, is there any way to get rid of those unwanted mesh wires? I just want to render out the wire of the building.

what about my materials and camera angles? what do you think?

thanks again

Do a "Hidden line" view. I usually use Revit for that, but if you are using max, you probably need the "Design Extension" or to get "Illustrate" plugin that does these kind of thing.

Btw, I like your building ;) very nice, did you design it?

I hope it's not built in a hot climate hehe ...

The NPR looks quite nice, but if your professor also knows about CG he might thought that is done with Photoshop's plugin, I think you need to get rid of some details as Hand rendering usually have to give a "lucid" quality of rendering, and some of the finer detail makes the rendering look CG-ish.

digi_archi, yeah to create a hidden line wireframe depends on your software. At school we have Archicad and I import my model into it from Max or Rhino which I model with, then I generate hidden line wireframe views to print out or plot to .pdf files to manipulate in photoshop or illustrator or other.

If you're using Max 5 there might be a way to use the Ink n Paint material to render a simple line drawing look. If not, just trace your render on a light table, easy ;)

hi digi,

It's coming along nicely.

Where are you going to school? I'm applying to grad schools for Architecture right now, and I'd love to hear some feedback from you on why you decided to go wherever you ended up.

btw, I'm starting a production company scoring movies so it looks like we have a lot in common...

I used to draw over my CG perspectives back in college. Everything to get rid of that "I hate computers" look on my professors' faces... :D

Anyway, if you have a tablet you can PS it quickly. Other than that, you can use Max's Ink'n Paint material, as mentioned, to get your hidden lines look.

Looking forward to an update soon!
