milfora
Hi, I am relatively new to Mental Ray, and have only started using it since the introduction of MR 3.5 in 3dsmax9. I am finding the new A&D material an absolute dream to use but recently the templates pulldown no longer works. I can access the materials directly by loading the 'mrArch_DesignTemplates.mat' material library, but it is much quicker to select an A&D material, select a template and start modifying Is anybody else having this issue? Is there a way to fix this? Thanks in advance AM
milfora
Hi Brian, No, I have not changed any of the default settings, aside from changing the project folder (I can't stand having to sift through half a dozen folders to find my scenes) I have tried resetting the defaults using the 'Custom UI and defaults switcher', but have had no luck AM
nisus
Did you move your matlibs? or did you overwrite one? Did you change any paths? Check your c:\3dsmax9\Matlibs folder AND YOUR LOCAL SETTINGS!!! (For some reasons max uses a lot of 'local' paths... so even i you THINK it's loading from your standard directory, it is NOT!!! - a HUGE PROBLEM this is!!!) about your prob: Imho, max cannot find your template matlib anymore... that's why it cannot activate the presets... for some reason max needs the A+Dmatlib to be able to work. (Had same prob here). Copy a 'good' A+Dmatlib (e.g. from your installation disc) to BOTH locations... rgds, nisus
milfora
Nisus, Many thanks, thats fixed it. For some strange reason, the material libraries were moved to the project folder (in this case C:\3ds Max 9\materiallibraries) The material libraries had been removed from the original install folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\3ds Max 9\materiallibraries) Copying the material libraries back into the original install folder has fixed the problem (even though my Configured User Path specifies the project 'Materials' folder) Thanks again AM

WAcky
I know this thread is quote old but i've hit a snag too. I've been doing some material Testing with the A&D shader and it seems that whenever i try to put a material to a library (doesnt matter which) it stops the A&D mat lib working. Wierd stuff...and annoying too! Anyways if anyone knows a solution i'd love to hear it.

conjeo
I have had this same problem many of times and I called Autodesk and they were no help at all. I finally just uninstalled and reinstalled Max and it worked but. A pain in the butt but it worked
pixelperfectg
After you re-install a working version of the mrArch_DesignTemplates.mat, right click on it in windows explorer and check the "read-only" option. That should prevent this from happening again.

SandmanNinja
I just fell victim to this as well. I renamed my folder .BAD, then copied my materiallibraries folder from my 32-bit version to the 64-bit version. Works fine! It's so crazy. So, does this mean no one here has a custom material library working?? If so, does your A&D materials work? If so, how? Thanks...
danb4026
I have just run into the same problem, but I have the A&D Template.mat file in the correct directory. As a matter of fact I put it in multiple directories to make sure that max could find it. No matter what I do, the templates will not show up in the material editor. I am also finding that when I try to do DR, the host machine cannot find the libraries on the slave machine (same machine where it cant find the templates). Not sure if one had anything to do with the other.
danb4026
I also have another MR problem on the same machine.... My Final Gather Precision Presets don't work! FG is enabled and the preset slider is stuck at the lowest setting and wont move at all. What the heck!!!!

pixelperfectg
Did you set mental ray as your production renderer? If not, then it's probably still set to use the scanline renderer therefore all the mr material will be unavailable.
