Make sure your curtain material is a 2 sided material, this way no matter what direction your normal is facing it'll render or enable force 2 sided in the render settings.

For checking what direction your normal is facing you can check a checkbox in mesh or poly mode and when you select a face a blue line will be emitted in the direction of the normal. If the line is not heading toward your camera, and you do not have a 2-sided material or have force 2 sided on in the render settings you will not see that object. For more information on normals, see the max help files.

Assuming you have materials applied to these objects and are not just using vertex color.

For Standard materials:

It is the in the "Shader Basic Parameters" section. Usually this is the first section of the material. There is a check box labeled "2 sided" make sure that is checked.

For Vray materials

It is in the "Options" section. Again, there is a check box that says "Double Sided" make sure that is checked.

See the max or vray help files for any further information.
