mimoutis
Hi.Iam a Maya user but i find difficult to draw a precision model with it.For example lines with specific measures or polylines which are so useful in an architectural drawing. Is there a way to do it like a plugin or something or should i just model in autocad and then use this direct connect program intergrated in maya 8.5 to import my work and go on? B y the way has anyone actually used direct connect?
richmondlu
Hello, Never used direct connect. What i do for exact modeling in maya is use the numbers in your attributes as if they were decimals. 1"=.08333 i have a conversion chart on my monitor so it works pretty fast. It also is very accurate i have had modeling projects intersect with in .001. That is what i do i would be very curious how other people do it. Alot of my drawings i actually build from scratch in maya unlike alot of people. Also for highly accurate models i do them in cad and convert them to dxf and have had no problems with that. I use 7 so i think in 8.5 you can actually just open dwg files. Hope this helps its good to see a fellow Maya user in this 3dmax world.
Chucky
I mostly take the drawing from AutoCad and import them into Maya. I use 8.5 now, but i mostly import them in Maya 7.0 That works al lot better then Direct Connect. When you want to draw precice in Maya you can use the channel box of course. Another nice tool is the absolute and relative input field. So no problem to draw precise. Good luck.
brentwatanabe
How do you Maya folks mitigate the clipping plane problems with larger CAD files? I have a site model I want to start building and I'm not sure how to go about it....ie: scale it in CAD first or b.) bring it into Maya as reference files? Also, I use inches as my maya unit. Any help would be appreciated.
