landrvr1
I've noticed something odd with Xref Scenes. Seems that when you have your light on the 'Exclude' parameter, your Xref Scene will be lit. Switch it over to 'Include' and you're scene isn't lit. Any ideas on how to get it to work with 'Include'?
Tommy L
I have a feeling that in order to use include/exclude, the light has to be in the same file as the geometry, ie, in the x-ref. (But thats a hunch only answer)
Redav
Well, sounds like it's working fine to me. I mean, it gives you the option of including or excluding stuff. If it's set to include and you don't add objects to the include list (like XRef's because you can't select objects from XRefed scenes) then it's doing it's job. If you want to only include stuff from an XRef then you'll have to reference the objects, not the scene (I haven't tried this though).

In fact, why doesn't my Xref show up on the Objects list?
Tommy L
xrefs dont show up because theyre not in the scene. Thats what i meant by you have to use a light in the same file.

That's what I suspect, but why then is there a listing for Xrefs in the Select Objects pulldown? That's bizarre. I've read that you can control Xref scenes with a parent, but I cannot figure out how to link the Xref to a parent object...? Speaking of all this, where did the option go to make an Xref OBJECt a proxy?
Redav
That's the problem. There's no Xref object to add to the list. In fact, why doesn't my Xref show up on the Objects list? That's fine. That's what it should do. As Tom said, an XRef'd scene bring in objects that are able to be selected and manipulated. If you want to use objects from another file, you need to XRef Objects. That's what I suspect, but why then is there a listing for Xrefs in the Select Objects pulldown? That's bizarre. What select objects pulldown? Do you mean the Select Objects panel? If so then that's for selecting objects that have been XRef'd in, not scenes. If you've got some geometry XRef'd in and you want to select it then you have to check the Geometry and XRefs check boxes and the objects show up in {}. I've read that you can control Xref scenes with a parent, but I cannot figure out how to link the Xref to a parent object...? Speaking of all this, where did the option go to make an Xref OBJECt a proxy? I don't know about any of that, sorry.
