Devin Johnston
Can anyone tell me if it's possable to import a 3D Studio camera into Vue 6?
thatch
Use the Vue Synch plugin for max, you should have it on your Vue installation discs otherwise download it from the site. It will appear in the utilities rollout allowing you to synch cameras and lights.
Devin Johnston
Ok I've installed the plugin in Max and exported a VESync file, how do I synchronize the camera in VUE?
Devin Johnston
Gareth, I've figured out how to sink up the camera in Vue but I'm having another problem. When I import the model into Vue and then sync up the camera my model is in one location and the camera is in another. The model and camera were exported from the same file so shouldn’t they come in at the same location?
thatch
This is probably due to the programs using different units, is there anything in the documentation with vue? Ive only ever tinkered with the demos and could never get vue to work in my 3ds unit scale (mm). Maybe try using generic units, failing that you could post the question at one of the forums listed on e-on http://www.e-onsoftware.com/resources/?page=forums
anthony cortez
After you've figured out how to synch your max camera with your vue camera, make sure you check the scale on the vue cam, it usually defaults to 10, so you'll need to bring it back down to 1. Devin Johnston
Anthony I noticed that and did adjust the scale but the camera still isn't where it should be. Does it matter if the model and camera aren't at 0,0,0?
anthony cortez
How large is the scene? I know that Vue has some limitations regarding scene sizes. It sometimes takes some exporting adjustments within Max, but usually synchs right in. Also, check your options, under general preferences, make sure that Resize and center imported objects is disabled. Can you post the max file? It doesn't have to include everything, just a reference object and a max camera.
Devin Johnston
I can post it but the scene is being rendered with Maxwell, if you don't have it you won't be able to open it. Would a 3DS work?
anthony cortez
it should...
RyanSpaulding
Make sure you uncheck 'center and resize on import' in Vue's options. That could do it. Also, you must be close to global origin and sometimes Vue's handling of 3ds files causes it to not work well...way too big.
Devin Johnston
Ok guy's I've finally received a response from the Eon people, basically this is a problem with Vue. They said they were going to pass this onto their development team; I'm frankly surprised that something as simple as this has been overlooked. It's been my experience that Vue has serious problems when importing anything from Max, scale being the biggest issue. From the advertising it seems like Vue works perfectly with Max but even with the XStream plugin I still found it extremely clunky plus it only works with Mental Ray and Scanline. Simon Moir
Maxer, I’m afraid I agree. I really want to love xstream, it’s so promising. It just… doesn’t work! It’s really very frustrating; it just sits on my computer doing nothing because every time I try to use it I run up against an import/ export problem of some kind. Using Vue on its own is fun, especially in release 6. The clouds, eco-system etc, great. Try and get it working with Max, it all goes wrong. I can’t imagine e-on have many more chances to get this right, people will just lose interest.
RyanSpaulding
Ok, I'ma let you in on a little secret.... As far as stability and service of their 1st few 'final' builds, e-On software = Next Limit. Period. I went through the migration to Vue 5 Infinite at launch. Never again. The program simply doesn't get to an acceptable level for 2-3 months....xStream included. I'd check back in a few months Maxer...it WILL be great once stable... Oh yeah, nothing to do about the clunkiness. Vue IS clunky. I'm a Vue user so I live in Clunkyville. Devin Johnston
I haven't had any problems with clunky behavior from Vue, to be honest I don't use it for anything other than creating background images for my renderings. I just can't believe that there in release 6 and you still can't import a simple camera successfully not to mention the scale issues. It just doesn’t make since that they spend all this time creating a new program and they can't get a simple thing like that to work properly. RyanSpaulding
It is odd, definitely. Probably has to do with V6 being the first to use real word scale and coordinates "correctly" (by name only)...so they've never really dealt with sync issues like now. Still, no excuse.
