Brian O'Hanlon
Please could anyone here tell me how i turn off that stupid 'animation' effect that AutoCAD 2006 insists upon doing when you zoom extents. It takes too long to complete its fancy effect of zooming out interactively, like a realtime zoom effect or something. I basically want my zoom extents command to work like it always used to, without the frills, thankyou very much. Please tell me it's not a permanent wired in feature, but something I can switch off with a variable command. Any suggestions or solutions would be very much appreciated. P.S. I reckon this 'added feature' has been one of the worst I have seen from AutoDesk in quite some time. Brian O' Hanlon.

Brian O'Hanlon
I know, but it is a very persistent 'offender' in my experience. Another thing I have noticed is the strengthening of the powerfulness of the MEASUREMENT system variable in AutoCAD. This issue was captured for me neatly in a discussion i had with Ernst Burden some time ago, in which he pointed out he uses Vectorworks or something in preference to AutoCAd, because you can go from imperial to metric easily. In past autocad releases the MEASUREMENT variable was only implemented in the program in a very harmless way. I only performed a function as far as the Autodesk design centre was concerned. Other than that, it was non-functional. And not many people use the Design Centre feature anyhow. Toolbars have replaced it in large part anyhow, being more powerful for CAD managers with large standard block collections developed down through the years. I think that AUGI magazine did an article on toolbars not too long back. They just built the code in there, but never really switched it on, in much the same fashion that intel built in 64 bit technology into the pentium 4 prescott core, but never switched it on at that time. They only switched on HT technology. But now i do notice, AutoDesk have turned up the volume of MEASUREMENT variable, and it is strenghtening in its influence. I haven't understood yet, how if at all this will affect my drawing environment. But it is sure to win back alot of users like Ernest who would have otherwise chosen Vectorworks. B. Hazdaz
AutoDesk is ALL about the bling-bling bullsht that makes a product look great during a presentation to higher-ups that don't know better... too bad most of those useless 'features' actually slow us down when really working.
