finding work

I've searched, but couldn't find much. I'm haven't spent a lot of time on this site, so I'm sorry if I'm beating a dead horse with this topic.

 

I am a student at the Art Institute in Seattle, studying 3D. I don't really have any background in architecture, moreso my specialty is in creating 3D images (as opposed to origial architectural design). I really enjoy creating interior and exterior visualizations. I don't really have an idea where to start fnding possible employers. For those who do freelance, do you start with a company first to build your experience then go solo or if not, how do you go about finding clients (or making clients find you)? I'm really new to this whole field, and I'm not really sure how many opportunities are out there for this (at least locally, Seattle area). Any input is appreciated. Again, sorry if this has been covered ad nauseum.
