I was curious to see what's out there so I did a little searching. I've seen one vray book that was in korean... I couldn't read a thing but there was plenty of screen shots with useful info.

I can't find the korean book online, plus it was a little dated version wise..... however I did find a different one..... hows your spanish?

No kidding... sounds like they finally got it translated. That book came months ago in Italian (i think) and we've been waiting on the english translation to get completed.

So if it says it's going out in October.....hmm I guess they still have a week! Time to tell the librarian to make an order :D

The book seems really nice, but it'll cost $160US. That's crazy talk.

Depends on your definition of crazy. Consider this. The average author makes an 8% commission on the wholesale price of a book. For my Max 8 book, I made a whopping $2.40 per book, which after selling a few thousand copies, means that for about 2000 hours work I made about 1/3 of minimum wage....which is why I now self publish. Even cutting out retail, distribution, sales, marketing, doing my own editing and paying minimum amounts for copy edit, tech. reviews, proofreading, etc, I am still very far from paying off our current book projects, despite their selling very well. Combine that with a very short window of opportunity to sell (ie 12 months), it doesn't leave much room for profit. Of course, not doing it for the money.

I would be extremely shocked if this individual recovers the cost of his printing, regardless of what price he sold it at. That book cost him what I paid for my last house...and printing fewer isnt a solution as the cost goes up exponentially as the print run goes down.

$160 for a book that will benefit you tremendously, be a big financial risk to him and make him little or nothing...too me that's crazy. Then again, arent we all a little.

I've been trying to determine (from the treddi.com website) whether this book is specific to the stand alone version of Vray or the 3dsMax iteration, and I'm still drawing a blank. Does anybody know?

Oops...:o

Never mind... I just took a closer look at one of the sample pages and noticed parts of the 3dsMax dialog interface. So I guess the book is 3dsMax specific after all.:D

I just got the notice that is was available for purchase yesterday. I ordered one copy and I'm not sure how long it will take to arrive from Italy to the USA.

It's expensive but looks to be pretty comprehensive. If I learn anything at all from it, and I'm pretty sure I'll learn allot, I'll feel it's worth the price.
