Michael Emo
Hey guys, Forgive me if this has already been posted. I'd like to get some help with HDR. I searched the forums...found some information but it seems that one really good tutorial on the net (that everyone links to) does have some errors or something. I am having trouble following it. My question: How come I can't get VrayHDRI to pop up, once I go into my materials editor and browse for material? Thanks for any guidance you can provide. andrew.forbes
Make sure that VRay is your current render engine, click on the diffuse map slot of a VRay (or standard for that matter) material and you should have VRay HDRI as an option near the bottom of the list. Then you can drag the HDR from the diffuse slot straight into an empty material editor slot. Then you can browse for your HDRI from there. Hope this helps. sterealkey
Or you could just click the 'get material' button, it will pop up a list and VrayHDRI will be there.
Michael Emo
Thanks for the help guys! Now I have another question. I'm trying to follow along with the tutorial I found from VisMasters, but as with most tutorials, I never seem to have the same settings as found in the tutorial I'm trying to follow. I attached a screengrab to illustrate this. So...for HDRI Set VRAY as my rendering engine Opened the material editor Material > Get Material > VRayHDRI [HDR map:] (Click browse to find HDR file) Load HDR File... Then I applied a Direct Target Light (see attached). But my settings seem to be different in several areas. 1. Why can't I click on the 'USE ENV. BACKGROUND' under the ALT+B dialog box? The tutorial says to click that button. 2. Why don't have to 'VRay Shadow Params' like they do in the tutorial? Thanks for any help you can provide. I want to get HDRI working good, but not sure what I'm doing wrong. Screengrab provided. Michael
redzuan3828
hai Michael Emo i got answer for question no. 2 you not check vrayshadow at general parameter under shadow for your lighting for question no. 1 , I can't find the solution. it work well for me because i have done this tutorial before created by Paco Morales from Mexico. that was very good. this is the tutorial link thanks Paco Morales cause your sharing knowleage to the world. Michael Emo
Thanks Redzuan! As usual, it is USER ERROR on #2. Not surprising. I am learning. I double checked and you were totally correct. Such a simple error on my part. Now if I could just figure out number 1? Thanks again! Michael
Michael Emo
Alright, so I got further this time with the tutorial. Now I have some hotspots on the rendering. Anyone know why this is, and what I might change to get rid of them? See attached. Also...I attached my VRAY settings. Do these look ok? I followed the VisMaster Tutorial for VRayHDRI which had general settings for all the VRay Parameters. I'm going for a general daylight scene. Something professional looking and well lit on a nice sunny blue sky day. And I still can't get my HDRI to pop up in the design window. So I don't know where to put the direct target light in order to match the HDRI I chose to use. If anyone could point the way, that would be great. Thank you in advance for your time Michael
redzuan3828
did you seen the tutorial that I was given. Michael Emo
Hi Redzuan, Yes, I have been trying to follow the tutorial. However, I still cannot get problem 1 solved, which I think must be a fairly important detail, since I cannot click the 'Use Environment Background'. Also, on the tutorial, when you initally 'Browse' for HDR map:, the following dialog box has a 'SETUP' that you can click to bring up the "HDRI Load Settings Box'. All my other settings appear to be inline with the tutorial, but I am still getting some white hot spots for some reason. And of course the background sky is not showing up at all. However, in VRay I have 1.5 and Max 9 and things seem to work a bit differently. If I want to bring up HDRI Load Settings Box, I have to hit ALT+B to bring up the viewport background. Then I have to click on 'Files...' and from here I can get to the HDRI Load Settings Dialog box. Also, under my VRay: Environment, I cannot specifically select my chosen HDRI under GI Environment (skylight) and also for the Reflection environment. It let's me select VRayHDRI when I click BROWSE, but I cannot select a specific file. In the tutorial, he shows specific files in this area, so I'm not sure what do there? See attached. It seems the tutorial should be updated for the latest version perhaps? It's a great tutorial, it just seems to be a bit different and causing me a bit of error. Thanks, Michael

Now I can understand what is your problem. i think that why You create problem no. 1:)
redzuan3828
yes that Why cou can't check use Environment Background i also don't no how to fix this problem after you get the file from this method. Let me show you how to bring HDRI to your Background go to material editor 1) get meterial 2) take bump 3) open HDRI file 4) Change the name Lighting 5) this is the important part : HDRI will give your scene brightness so you need to adjust this number base on your scene. Use direct light for getting shadow only. You must play with it. Locate your Direct Light similar place with your Sun in the scene or you need to adjust this thing (5A) I have this problem before be carefull open Envirenmont & effect (hit 8) open V-ray environment (hit f10) 6 & 7) Drag material as what I shown You have done and put Background already but your background can't seen 8) so go to camera viewport right click and check Show Background that it one more ctrl +B check use environment background I hope you can understand good luck
Michael Emo
Hi Redzuan, I owe you big man! Thank you!!! It worked to do what you said exactly. You can see how things were a bit different than the tutorial so i could not figure it out. Looking good now though. Just need to experiment with the settings a bit more an I think I'll have things. Thanks again! Michael
