It's actuay the ctrl button you need to keep presses when picking your shape for a loft object to flip it the other way. The pivot point is the point around which your shape can be moved rotated etc. When lofting a shape along a path, the pivot point is also the point at which the shape will touch the path. For example, if you were lofting a simple kerb object for a road and had a line which represented the back edge of the kerb, you must make sure that the kerb shape has its pivot point located at the back edge. This can be found in the hierarchy menu. Select 'affect pivot only' and move pivot to desired location. Then create your loft. See example below.. batteryoperatedlettuce
I recon that if you're only lofting a single shape along a single path, with no midway variations, "sweep" is the better choice. It's been working wonders since max 8 came out. I find nowadays that if I have to create anything more complex I just use nurbs.
redzuan3828
i also use sweep modifier to do cornice because for beginer like me, it easy. don't forget to uncheck smooth section and smooth path at sweep parameter. it flexsible to adjust but you must use loft for road to assign material follow the line. It just my opinion. i'm also still learning loft because it was very usefull.... i heard:D
BrianKitts
if your loft is swept the wrong way, you can select the loft then in the modifier stack select "shape", then click on the swept shape in the viewport (you may have to use the option to not show the skin of the loft to see the shape. Then using rotate and move you can then adjust the shape's relationship to the path (snaps help). Keep in mind if your shape has to be rotated 180 degree's you will have to flip the normals on the loft. The loft has some different controls then the sweep function and in some cases will do things the sweep can't... (it works the other way as well) So knowing how to control your lofts is a good skill. Thus we have the following quick tut.... enjoy
