guitarmunkee
I just got some metropoly 3d people, here's the link if you want to see what I'm talking about http://www.axyz-design.com/. I'm having trouble merging in the rigged people into my animation scene. When they get merged in ,the biped seems to get scaled smaller then the 3d mesh itself. I am doing something wrong? I group the biped and mesh in there own file and then merge the grouped item into my scene and still the biped merges in small. Plus when I move the rigged group person around in the scene the mesh itself starts acting weird , like vertices get pulled and it starts to lose shape. Anybody know anything about what I'm talking about?
gfa2
Anybody know anything about what I'm talking about? I think it is a units problem. The Metropoly are in Metric and you are working in English (I'm guessing). If so, try Thatch's suggestion. http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/20188-3d-people-3dmax-units-issue.html

guitarmunkee
That didn't really work. I'm still getting this result. Any suggestions?
gfa2
That does look familiar, but I'm not in my office today so I'll have to take a look at it tomorrow.
Devin Johnston
Ok I've had this problem and there are two things you have to do in order to import these models properly and move them around in Max. I hope this help you out, I don't know why AXYZ design can't figure out a better and easier way for people to work with their product. They really need to write a plugin for Max that does all of this automatically. Scale People- 1. Customize/unit setup 2. Change system unit setup to inches 3. Change display unit scale to us standard 4. Select xxxx-bip 5. Go to motion panel 6. Under biped select figure mode 7. Under structure change height to appropriate height the character should be. Move people- 1. Select xxxx-bip 2. Go to motion panel 3. under biped select load file 4. Select appropriate .bip file 5. Set animation frame to "0" 6. Under layers select "create layer" 7. Move character to desired location 8. Under key info click "set key"
guitarmunkee
Ok, I have all that now, but how do I merge them? Thats the real problem i'm having. Every time I merge them the mesh is small or tyhe biped is small. Am merging them in wrong? Do I group them?
Devin Johnston
You have to convert the scale of each person and then group it all together before you merge them into a scene.
