sdds
I am writing this to sort of get my head around 'me'. and where I want to get professionally. Maybe you guys could give me an honest view. I left school at 16 and did a two year foundation course in Art&Design. The course was bad and not very helpful to me, at the time I skipped classes (which where sit in a room and draw whatever with no teaching at all) and instead spent loads of time in the library trying to understand design, anything I could get my hands on really. Also spent time learning about photography skipped classes in the darkroom on a regular basis. I remember being thoroughly confused with my work at the time, tutors would phrase students who emptied a tube of paint onto paper and those who could draw where not given the time of day. When I left I discovered computers and started learning photoshop, I then did a 2 year higher national diploma in graphic design. This was better but the course for some reason had very little computer education, back to the library & the internet for more learning... After my two years managed to get a job designing graphics for believe it or not flower pots. As I was working away I started to notice the world of 3d and managed to convince my employer that I could create images of the products complete with flowers etc in environments of his choice. So all went well and then unfortunately the company shut and I was made redundant. For a few months I did a bit of freelance work then a major change in my life occurred, my mother & father where both involved in a car accident. My mother suffered permeant brain damage and I spent the next year to date looking after her while my father tried to keep earning, which was he found emotionally very difficult. I lost most of my social life and my days revolved around cooking/cleaning and trying to keep myself sane, working studying 3d. So here I am continuing to learn 3d and enjoying it very much, desperately waiting for a chance to prove myself as an artist. Well thats the end of my rambling folks feels good to vent my frustration. I have done: 3d/compositing, webdesign, interactive cd building & page layout. sdds
Thanks m8, sometimes I wonder if my lack of qualifications is a problem, I struggle to get an interview, always get "put you on file". I like 3d because it fits into any design pipeline also that I wouldnt be just another graphic designer. I really look forward to doing some work though it seams hard to get the chance, love hanging round here though.
jophus14
You can always check out the job board on this site to see if there is anything of interest. You should post some of your work for potential employers to see. Good luck.

mahorela
keep improving and knocking on the door. You won't be denied forever. Qualifications don't mean that much in this industry, it's all about the portfolio.

Bwana Kahawa
I too found a liking for 3D without any real qualifications in it. Spent time on it in the evenings and eventually built up a portfolio enough to get my foot in the door at an architecture firm. It seemed like it took forever, but it was a case of persevering and not letting the "no positions available at this time" refusal letters get me down! Keep at it, even though it seems like a slog now. And get yourself an online portfolio - makes life a lot easier when trying to get your name out there!
