justintime1
Texture Mapping help!> Hi folks. I’m trying to create the edge of a lake for on of my models, I have created a blend material to give the impression of the grass fading to the lakes edge. Please see image. It maps fine to a plane or a box but I was wondering how I might get it to map to a random shaped mesh such as the one that is also in the image, Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Many thanks Mat. Sawyer
Real fun stuff like this works best with the UNWRAP UVW tools. You could look around for a good tutorial on using them but the idea is you get your mesh and make a jpg out of the mesh with the mesh laying flat or unwrapping like a shell then you take it into ps and paint ontop of that. Then when you apply the material it fits on the mesh. There is also the camera per pixel option. That is really fun but you get into trouble if you have to move your camera at all. basical you render, then you paint onto the rendering, then you add that painted rendering as a material. I used it once when I had a terrible deadline. The deadline was met and the designer like it so much he wanted me to redo the scene with a different view. All textures were view dependant and useless.

BrianKitts
depending on how precise you are trying to be, you could apply the mapping to the object and then edit the mesh after the mapping is applied and your texture will follow suit.....
