Jeff Mottle
I found these the other day and thought I'd post them for others to try out. I just bought a 30" LCD monitor to replace my 2 19" CRTs and this app it kind of handy. Not sure if I will keep it yet, but seems cool. GridMove is a program that aims at making windows management easier. It helps you with this task by defining a visual grid on your desktop, to which you can easily snap windows. This program comes bundled with some predefined grid templates, that can be easily swaped, but also has ways of creating custom grids or sharing grids made by others. http://jgpaiva.donationcoders.com/gridmove.html I haven't tried this one yet, but seems like it could be useful when rendering and trying to work. I used to always manually set the app priority myself on 3dsmax when I was rendering and working on other things, and it looks like this app might automate this process. Process Tamer is a tiny (140k) and super efficient utility for Microsoft Windows XP/2K/NT that runs in your system tray and constantly monitors the cpu usage of other processes. When it sees a process that is overloading your cpu, it reduces the priority of that process temporarily, until its cpu usage returns to a reasonable level. http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/proctamer/index.html

Jeff Mottle
What brand/specs did you end up buying? Are you happy with it? I bought the Dell 3007WFP-HC. They shipped me the non HC-color version first due to a a mix up, so I'm waiting for the HC to arrive next week so I can send this one back. The HC is a new one they just released and it their high color version with a CCFL backlight and an increased gamut of 92%. I can't speak to the colors yet, but as far as real-estate, going from dual monitors to a single 30" is a good switch. I run it at full res at 2560 x 1600. My 19" were set at 1600 x 1200, so the extra hight is nice. It's really cool to work in max full screen when a single window is expanded to full screen. I'm using two GeForce 7900 GTX to drive it, so they probably helps. I thought the 30" would seem huge, but it really isn't once you've had it for a week. Sounds crazy, but I could easily add another one next to it. Not for the price though. The list is about $2200 CDN, and I was able to get them down to $1699 CDN. I never realized it, but if you are buying Dell, you just have to phone in and ask them to give you a better price and they almost always do. gfa2
Sounds crazy, but I could easily add another one next to it. I have (2) 21" LCD's and I actually like them being sperate monitors. I actually like have that division. To have Photoshop open on one monitor and 3dsmax on the other is really cool. Is that were that grid program is coming in handy for you?
