Building a website

Looking at building a website..nothing fancy..it is about the work. How many of you build your own using online companies. I found one with 1000 megs of storage and a few other features for $8.09 a month, does this sound ok?

Until I learn how to build one freestyle or afford a designer I have to use one of these online vendors so I can get my work out there.

by online companies, do you mean web hosting, or do you mean web templates or design?

...unless you are a larger firm, and have some cash to throw at it, which it doesn't sound like you do, then you will have to use a hosting company. the deal you found, doesn't sound to bad. i use lunarpages.com myself, and i register names through godaddy.com.

as for web design. try looking at photoblog software. it is easy to use, and works decently well as a portfolio for our line of work. i used pixelpost for awhile. ...depending on what company you go with on hosting, they may have photoblog software already installed for you to use.

another option to get around design would be simpleviewer. which is a decent flash based photo presentation tool. i have seen it used on a handful of websites of other users here. it is free also.

maybe try google pages too. You get 100mb only but it's good for simple stuff. The website in my sig is hosted on there for free.

fyi, I assume most of the users around here are firefox users, so I would definitely recommend editing your pages on googlepages with IE to avoid errors.

edit:

In addition Louis.Cho's comment. I'm using 1and1 right now for for domain forwarding, had some billing problems and am not to ecstatic with the customer service. I might recommend godaddy if customer service is more important to you.
