use C4d or not...?

Recommended Posts

Hey C4D Users.

I have a question - I have never used Cinema 4D, but do currently work in Max, Maya and have tinkered with Lightwave. How do you find C4D program? What woud you say are its best/worst qualities? I'm trying to figure out if I should invest time playing with this progam....

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Alexandra.

why don't you download the demo and decide for yourself?

I've never used the other programs you mention, so it would be useless for me to try to compare them for you. However, I've had sevreal colleagues pick up c4d easily after knowing some max. They usually find c4d more user friendly as well.

Thanks for your responses.

Thank Edub, I will download a demo and check it out. good to know it is user friendly also.

AJLynn, the sketch& toon feature - is equivalent to cartoon shader correct? what about C4D's regular renderer? would you say it competes with Max's Vray? I am looking for a package for architectural design that's why I'm checking this out....

Vray has a lot of advantages over C4D's current options - C4D regular render is not good enough, the Advanced Render module is better (and a bunch of people here make very effective use of it) but I'd put Vray and mental ray in another class, with Vray being the best thing for the kind of architecture work you see a lot of these days.. Of course, Max is more expensive and Vray is an additional expense.

Fortunately, C4D's already got finalRender available and will have its own Vray release soon.

I'm a junior architect so I do some 3d work for my firm, mostly designs I'm working on. In school I did a lot of parametric modeling and Cinema's object heirarchy and Xpresso were very well suited for what I was doing.
