andreg
Hi all I was reading about the new training services from 3DAS. Do you guys know by any chance what the new features of max 10 are? Just very curious... thinking of getting max 9-64bit but now I'm not so sure anymore if I should wait for 10 or not Thanks
Devin Johnston
I really wish Autodesk would stop releasing new versions every year. I just switched from Max 7 to Max 9 and there is absolutely no difference in the two as it relates to my every day work. I think the only reason they do it is to keep the people on subscriptions happy. To answer your question I don’t think any information has been released and probably won’t until Siggraph is over. AJLynn
Devin- Maybe the upgrade doesn't matter to you, but it does to me. I actually like the current system quite a bit. Subscription means never having to ask the partners to buy upgrades, and yearly updates, while they don't really deserve to be called full versions (I'd say 7 and 8 were more like 6.x versions, which would make 9 really 7) do give us some improvements with each release. To me, Power Booleans, file linking improvements, 64-bit support, regular mental ray updates, the display engine rewrite and even AEC extensions, the new cloth system and hair are worthwhile updates since 7 at relatively low cost, considering what we pay for this stuff. Heck, mental ray alone makes it worth it. Plus, I like getting new versions that have new icons and start screen graphics. I say bring it on, ship something new every quarter (For summer, if anybody at Autodesk is looking, I recommend more help file rewrites...) Sawyer
I like the subscription as well. I really wish they would keep the files in the same folder paths. They keep redoing the way the folders are named and I keep forgetting where stuff is.
Brian Smith
I think the only reason they do it is to keep the people on subscriptions happy. This I'm sure is the main reason why. I personally like the yearly upgrades for all the reasons mentioned. Even if you dont use any new features with max 9, one benefit that you can't argue with is the increased speed in rendering. I dont have max 8 installed anymore, but when i first made the switch, i did a lot of testing and just many others found a 10-15% decrease in render times by rendering a max 8 scene without making a single change to any settings. That alone is worth the upgrade to me and certainly worth the cost of a subscription.
DavidR
I also am very happy with Max9 since they fixed the BB2007 bug. A very worthwhile upgrade for what we do at work.
Devin Johnston
I understand I just think it's kind of a waste to have a new release every year when an update would suffice.
batteryoperatedlettuce
I'd say from 6-7 the most useful upgrade for me was the layer + other import options for importing dwgs. 7-8 was worth it for real-world-map-size and the sweep modifier. I guess hair fur and cloth were introduced then too right? I'm still on 8 now. It's a hell of a job convincing everyone it's worth upgrading, and I'm personally not sure that it is worth it at the moment. I'll wait and see what 10 is like. Backward compatibility would be a nice addition

gfa2
Improved Revit linking would rule! VIZ 2008 is suppose to have this, so it seems max 10 would too.
Crazy Homeless Guy
Improved Revit linking would rule! VIZ 2008 is suppose to have this, so it seems max 10 would too. one of the benefits of subscription service is the extension drops, which, don't happen frequently. this spring they are supposed to an extension drop for an better FileLink option. FileLink handles the Revit linking also. the extensions that they drop are typically included in the next full release.

I have read that........ the new 10 version...............? Here are the updates to VIZ 2008, which in the past seems like it would have been a glimps into the future of max, but this time it looks like VIZ is catching up with max a little. http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=8413312
AJLynn
Actually it looks like the only Revit import option is still through DWG, but they claim improved performance.
