MesaPrs
I've been having trouble creating any sort of archway shape in Max and was curious if anyone uses any method other than subtractive boolean that works? When I use a boolean to cut an arch out of a plane/box, there's always a stray poly cutting through one side of the opening, or similar, and sweeping an arch doesn't really do the trick... Thanks for any help John
Sawyer
The best way to do an arch is with splines you have so much control.
batteryoperatedlettuce
don't use booleans for that sort of thing. Draw a spline representing the elevation and extrude, or import a closed polyline from CAD and extrude that. edit ^^^ you beat me to it
MesaPrs
ehh how do I get rid of that duplicate thread? Thanks guys - I've had bad memories of Nurbs in Maya so I kinda stick to poly modeling... I definitely need to start using splines now
batteryoperatedlettuce
This link is repeated frequently here and it hosts some fantastic videos, which explain some of the critical basics of using spline sub objects. Concentrate on the series of spline editing videos. Ted Boardman's videos
